Meeting Information for March
The next meeting of the LA Area DB2 User Group will be held on
March 4, 2004 at the Sheraton Cerritos. The meeting room will open at
8:00am for coffee and refreshments with the meeting beginning
at 8:30am. This is a full day meeting with a catered lunch and hosted by
Quest Software. We will have 2 presentations, the first by Chuck
Sodowsky from Quest and the second by Sheryl M. Larsen.

Chuck Sodowsky - Quest
Chuck Sodowsky is currently the
Product Marketing Manager for database products at Quest Software.
He has worked with DB2 since
1990 and has held many roles including developer, DBA, Presales Systems
Consultant, as well as Presales Director.
Representing various database tools
vendors for the last 12 years, Chuck has given countless technical and
product presentations centered around database management at numerous user
groups and trade shows including IDUG and the IBM DB2 Technical
& Differences between DB2, Oracle and SQL Server
Everyday, DBA's are being asked
to do more with less. In today's economy, it has become commonplace for
Oracle DBAs to also manage Microsoft SQL Server databases. Even DB2
mainframe DBAs are expected to administer DB2 as well as other databases
on UNIX and NT. This presentation addresses the similarities as well as
the differences between DB2, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server as well as
the challenges faced by the heterogeneous DBA.
Sheryl M. Larsen - Sheryl M. Larsen, Inc.
Sheryl M. Larsen is president and
founder of Sheryl M. Larsen, Inc.(www.smlsql.com),
a firm specializing in Advanced SQL Consulting and Education.
She is an internationally recognized
researcher, consultant and lecturer, specializing in DB2 and is known for
her extensive expertise in SQL.
Sheryl has over 19 years experience in
DB2, has published many articles, several popular DB2 posters, and
co-authored a book, DB2 Answers, Osborne-McGraw-Hill, 1999.
She was selected as a keynote speaker
for the IDUG Asia Pacific 2002 Conference and is frequently asked to
keynote DB2 tool vendor's world wide events.
She was voted into the IDUG "Speaker
Hall of Fame" in 2001 and was the Executive Editor of the IDUG Solutions
Journal magazine 1997-2000.
Currently, she is President of the
Midwest Database Users Group (www.mwdug.org),
and a member of IBM's DB2 Gold Consultants program.
