Meeting Information for June 2003

The next meeting of the LA Area DB2 User Group will be held on June 5th, 2003 at the Sheraton Cerritos. The meeting will start at 8:30am with coffee and refreshments, followed by any special announcements from IBM or LAADB2UG with the first presentation beginning around 9:30.

PRESENTER #1:  Liz Drolet of IBM

Liz Drolet is currently working at IBM in the DB2 Data Management Software group. Liz has 20 years of Application Development and DBA experience with DB2 and other database technologies. In her current position, Liz assists customers in distributed DB2 database technology in the areas of
configuration, performance tuning, replication, federation, and connectivity. She is a DB2 Certified Advanced Technical Expert and has spoken at various conferences such as IDUG and Regional User Groups. She has been working with the Beta program for Information Integrator at a
number of customer locations.

PRESENTATION #1:  DB2 Information Integrator

DB2 Information Integrator is a new family of products, designed to address customer requirements for integrating structured, semi-structured and unstructured information effectively and efficiently. These products are based on the previously disclosed Xperanto project. They provide the foundation for a strategic information integration framework to help access, manipulate, and integrate diverse, distributed and real-time data.

PRESENTER #2:  John Lyle of IBM

John has worked at the Silicon Valley Laboratory in the DB2 organization since 1985.
Joining DB2 development in 1995, he worked in the RDS area focusing mostly on the
DB2 system catalog, migration and fallback and the data definitional language (DDL) areas.

He was the lead designer and implementer of the catalog changes for Versions 5 thru 8,
the fallback coordinator for Versions 5 thru 7 and has worked on numerous other line items
in these releases.

John is currently working on DB2's index manager component.

PRESENTATION #2:  DB2 Catalog Mysteries Unveiled

The purpose of this presentation is to unveil some of the mysteries of the DB2 catalog and the migration process.

The presentation will cover some basic catalog information before moving into the mysteries of a catalog migration.

In addition to an introductory view of the new Version 8 migration and conversion modes, John will also cover migrations in a data sharing/non-data sharing environment, the migration and conversion considerations involved, process enhancements and performance considerations

John will conclude his presentation with information about the future direction of the DB2 catalog migration and conversion process.
