Lunch will be served from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. complements of Quest Software.

Two presentations, Supporting Distributed Application with DB2 Connect and Tuning DB2 UDB Configuration Parameters will be presented by John Thomas, Systems Consultant with Quest Software.

John will discuss the new features in DB2 Connect V7.1, features such as LDAP, connection concentration, and related DB2 for OS/390 ZPARM settings will be addressed. Other issues will include unattended and distributed installs, problem determination, and system performance will be covered. This presentation is based on 4 years of experience with DB2 Connect in various configurations and versions.

Properly tuned Database Manager (DBM) and Database Configuration (DB CFG) parameters are key to good performance. The old rule of only making one change and then monitoring the results of that change is difficult to apply with these parameters because many of the parameters are interrelated and may need to be changed at the same time. Effects on logging and recovery will also be discussed. This presentation will cover DBM and DB CFG parameters in detail with emphasis on key parameters. This presentation is based on several DB2 UDB NT/AIX implementations and subsequent tuning efforts.

We are actively looking for new members to help out in our steering committee. We need some of your help to keep the group going with quality presentations and activities. If you think you might be interested and would like to know more about what’s involved, please contact any member of the steering committee.

I look forward to seeing all of you at the next meeting. Please drop me a note or give me a call at 562 570-6317 if you wish any additional information.
